Soft Summer Mood Board
I have decided to create (at least) one mood board for each of the 12 Colour Types using cut-outs from recent fashion, lifestyle and beauty magazines. I want to capture the essence of each Colour Type using the latest fashion and trends. I want to show how each and every Colour Type can be modern, trendy, fashionable and chic, simply “in vogue”. Also, I want to create something using my hands and away from the computer screen.
The second mood board is dedicated to the Soft Summer colour palette. I had so many cut-outs for the Soft Summer Colour Type that I actually crated two mood boards. I will share the second one with you in due course. Everything in the picture is a Soft Summer colour. The cut-outs, the colour fans, the colour of the paper (a great example of a Soft Summer version of black) as well as the colour of the background drapes. At first glance, the mood board should give you the overall feel for the Soft Summer colouring. Upon second and third viewing, you will be able to focus on the (hidden) details. The eye shadow palette, lipstick colours, patterns, colour combinations, materials, hair colour etc.
Soft Summer colour palette is all about effortless elegance. No matter whether you dress formally or casually, there is something inherently elegant about the Soft Summer colours - elegant, delicate and perhaps slightly introverted. Grey blues meet soft teal, antique white, mauve, ocean blue green, rose brown, light lemon yellow, taupe, turquoise and ash of roses.
The antique white turtleneck sweater (top middle) is as white as Soft Summer should go. Anything sharper or whiter (e.g. show-white) would be too much on a Soft Summer and turn their skin patchy and dirty. Soft white looks extremely elegant on Soft Summers as well as grey beige.
The mauve/antique rose suit on the very left would be a great addition to her wardrobe. On the very right, there is a wonderful example of a suit, shirt & tie combo for a Soft Summer corporate man. Note that the shirt is muted (blue-grey), i.e. not pure white. In the combination with the tie and the colour and the discreet pattern of the suit, the overall effect is spot on. Even the metal of his eyeglass frames is the right colour!
Soft Summer colours are muted, hence materials that absorb the light further enhance the softness of the colour: knitwear, cashmere, wool, distressed denim, suede, tweed, linen. I also included shoe colour options, as clients ask “What shoes should I wear if pure black is not for me?”.
What do you think about the Soft Summer mood board? Are there any Soft Summers reading this article? What Colour Type mood board should I do next? Please comment below.
Note: This mood board is all about colour. It is not dedicated to any particular Image Archetype (Body Type).
