PERSONAL COLOUR ANALYSIS in Zurich

How does the colour analysis process look like?
Human eye recognises colours best by comparison. That is why colour analysis process involves comparison of drapes in different colours to the natural pigmentation of a client. When you sit in front of the mirror I stand behind you and change drapes under your face. At the beginning I clarify what exactly we are going to look at and during the analysis I explain what we see happening in the mirror. I want you to understand how we get to your best Season and see with your own eyes the benefits of using these colours.

I was analysed in the 4 season system before, is this different?
Yes. The 12 Seasons System (which is the basis for the more differentiated systems with up to 28 Seasons) is different from the traditional 4 season colour analysis system both in accuracy and processes. The 4 season colour analysis, made popular in the 80's, had an essential introductory role in the history of prescribing harmonious colours for people. Much like other science based industries such as medicine and computer technology, colour analysis has developed and improved over the years and the precision and information the 12+ Season System now provides is on another level.

I have heard of systems with more than 12 Seasons. Are they better?
I have investigated systems with up to 28 Seasons (aka colour types). The advantage of the 12 Seasons is that they are clearly differentiated and there are lots of materials online available to clients who want to further educate themselves. However, I do appreciate that the greater differentiation brings a more precise analysis. I currently determine 17 colour types, I define your second best type as well as your personal hue and value contrasts.

What colour types do you work with?
The basis of my work are the 12 Seasons and I currently determine up to 17 colour types:

Why is natural sunlight important?
Natural light (and full spectrum bulbs) includes full range of light waves, which allows for accurate perception of colour. This can not be achieved with regular artificial light. PCA session can only take place during daylight. For any unforeseen weather circumstances, I have a full spectrum LED lamp in my studio that simulates daylight and is specially designed for colour analysts.

Why can’t I wear makeup?
It would be like trying to see your skin through a mask. We will colour analyse the mask, the makeup, instead of your natural and true skin tone. If you arrive wearing makeup, it may be removed here.

I wear subscription glasses, can I keep them on for the session?
If possible please wear non-coloured contact lenses instead of glasses. If that’s not an option, there will be times during the session when I’ll ask you to remove your glasses so I can take a better look.

What if I don’t like the colours in my colour palette?
People usually don’t like colours that don’t suit them. One of my clients has strong aversion to khaki and the draping process confirmed that it is one of her absolute worst colours. A few of my clients disliked hot pink and that colour truly didn’t suit them. All colours in your colour palette will flatter your skin tone. You may not be quite familiar with all the shades in your palette, however, when you observe how healthy, handsome, youthful and competent you look in your best colours in the mirror, you won’t dislike them. Moreover, the visual materials for clients (a PDF document with beautiful images as well as your secret Pinterest board with real-life examples of outfits and accessories in your most flattering colours) are designed with love and high appreciation for every colour type. Every picture, illustration and outfit inspiration has been chosen for you to simply fall in love with your colour palette. You will read about celebrity examples that share your Season and those include some of the most beautiful people on the planet. Therefore, I cannot imagine that you would dislike the entire colour palette of your Season. Maybe you don’t like green but there will also be reds and blues and purples and yellows in your palette to choose from. Having said that, some of the colours you like and wear might not be among your best colours. You may really like light pastel blue, however, a deeper and warmer shade of blue would be much more flattering on you. This may happen indeed. That is why during the session we will cover tips on how to incorporate less than ideal colours into your outfits.

I’m afraid you will tell me I can’t wear black (or brown or beige or pink etc.).
I don’t like to tell anyone they can’t do anything! Personal colour analysis is ultimately a freeing experience rather than a limiting one. The goal of the session is to empower you by showing you your absolute best colours, your second best colours, … as well as your absolute worst. Every Season has its version of black/ white/ red/ blue/ yellow/ green/ navy/ purple. The colour analysis will include strategies for incorporating less than ideal colours into your wardrobe depending on your preferences. From my personal experience, I discovered a lot of colours and colour combinations I never thought would look great on me thanks to colour analysis. I also realised that life is too short to wear colours that make me look ill/ old/ washed-out. I stopped buying unflattering colours and focused on those that made me shine. Also, the colour analysis session is not a judgement on your past colour choices. It only focuses on the future choices. (I still have some older items in my wardrobe in my less flattering colours for sentimental, financial or practical reasons.)

What if I think I was placed in the wrong Season?
If ever you think your Season has been wrongly determined, I drape you again, free of charge.

I live far away, can you analyse me from photographs or via Skype?
Unfortunately not. Accurate colour communication via different cameras, lighting and monitor screens is near impossible as monitors and cameras distort colours. Computer technology cannot come close to duplicating the human sense of sight and its interpretation of colour. The colour tone of a human being can only be conclusively determined in person, visually.

Do you recommend having Personal Colour Analysis and Image Archetype (Body) Analysis in one day or on two separate dates?
I strongly recommend having a break between the Personal Colour and Image Archetype sessions. Both sessions are quite long (up to 4 hours), intense and filled with loads of information. It is wise to start with the Colour session, have the information and impressions from the session sink and settle and resume with the Image Archetype session in 2 or 3 weeks. Moreover, seeing you in person during the Colour session gives me invaluable information towards determining your Image Archetype.

Can you come and analyse me at my home?
All Personal Colour Analysis sessions take place in the Style Identity studio. Logistically it would be rather complicated to perform the analysis at your home. I would first have to inspect the precise place at your home where the colour analysis would take place during the exact time of the analysis to make sure the daylight conditions are optimal. Moreover, there has to be enough space for the special mirror, chair, you, me and my large stand with all my colour fans... The mirror and the stand would have to be specially transported to your home. You see, it is logistically a delicate operation. If you have the opportunity and possibility to come to my studio, I highly recommend it.
