Colour Analysis And Interior Design
When L. told me why she looked for a colour analyst, my jaw dropped. I’ve never heard anything like that before from a client. Yet, it made perfect sense…
“I would like to discover and understand my most flattering colours, because I am moving to my country of origin and I would like to design the interior of my new house with the colours that suit me.”
My brain literally exploded! BOOM! This was transcendent. L. booked a colour session with me because of walls, carpets, curtains and furniture.
Think of it, it makes perfect sense, particularly nowadays. We attend video conference calls from home, we shoot business related videos & photos at home. All that contributes to our brand, to our professional image and output. The background of all the images and videos is our home - the walls, the furniture, the home accessories… Every little detail matters, i.e. every colour and material in the relative proximity of our face is relevant. It makes sense to dress our homes to flatter our complexion the way we dress our bodies.
If the colour of your walls and furniture is in harmony with your Colour Type, you will look better in photos and videos, more competent, authentic and healthy. You will stand out and shine. If the colour of your interior is in strong disagreement, i.e. in disharmony, with your natural pigments, the video or photo of yourself will show for it.
No matter your taste in interior design, you can achieve any effect using any colour palette. If you are a minimalist, you will use the neutrals from your palette and accompany them with a dash of one carefully chosen accent colour here and there. Or you might avoid the accent colours altogether. Think of Kim Kardashian West’s home, all in beige, greige & white. Well, there are dozens of different shades of beige out there. Which one do you choose? Where do you even start? Is it a warm, neutral or cool beige that you look for? Pure white, off-white, white coffee or ivory? It gets more and more complex the more you look into the nuances and the properties of colour (hue, value and chroma). Or are you on the other end of the spectrum, looking of an original interior design full of colour, pattern and accessories (like Dita Von Teese's Taxidermy-Filled Home in Open Door by Architectural Digest)? It’s up to you and your taste. No matter what effect you go for, there will be colour on your walls and furniture and home accessories. Why not create something that is in harmony with you, something that supports your natural beauty… something that makes it even more your home?
You might ask: what if people who live in the home have different Colour Types? What then? Well, maybe there are some overlaps in their colouring. Maybe there are solutions that suit all of them. Maybe their most private individual rooms cater more precisely to their unique Colour Type.
I believe the future of Personal Colour Analysis in not only in the clothes, makeup and hair colours we choose, it will also impact the colours and materials of our interiors, of our offices and homes.
Therefore, it is important to work with an architect that is not wary of and that understands colour. Irena Valertova (www.irenavalertova.ch) is a wonderful choice if you live in Switzerland. Her heart beats for clean and minimalist interior design with a tasteful hint of colour to make your home a unique and welcoming place to live in (her bathrooms in pastel colours are a dream). Please do get in touch with her.
