Classic or Gamine?
For some it is very hard to tell the difference between the Gamine and Classic Image Archetypes. Maybe because both, Gamines and Classics, represent a unique balance of Yin and Yang features. Gamines are a combination of opposites, a puzzle of Yang and Yin features. Classics portray the Yin and Yang balance slightly differently. It is as if the vast majority of their features is right on the border between Yin and Yang, or at least the overall effect seems to be a perfect blend between Yin and Yang (there might be slight deviations in some of the features though).
There are excellent articles online that help you see the differences between the Gamine and Classic Image Archetypes. They taught me to think of a
cheeky naughty smile (Gamine) vs. princess smile (Classic)
movement (Gamine) vs. stillness (Classic)
youthful boyish (Gamine) vs. mature beauty (Classic).
There is one fun:-) tip I can share with you, that helps me differentiate between the two Image Archetypes. I discovered this trick thanks to one of my Image Archetype clients.
Are you torn between the Classic and Gamine Image Archetypes? Imagine (or take a picture of) the person with large Mickey (or Minnie) Mouse ears on their head. Does it look as if she was born with them, authentic, cheeky and fun? Then the probability that she is a Gamine is higher. Does it look like all you see are the Mickey Mouse ears and you would much rather see the person wearing a simple tiara (ideally the tiara in the photo below would be slightly less ornate)? Then the probability that she is a Classic is higher.
Note: This trick works for me and should not be used as the ONLY indicator.
On a more serious note… In search of their Kibbe Body Type, people sometimes get too focused on comparing their facial and body features in isolation to facial and body features of celebrities. Some of those celebrities might not even be in the right category. You can find online the same celebrity defined as Theatrical Romantic, Soft Dramatic and Dramatic Classic (Rachel Weisz)! Or another defined as Gamine on one website and as Theatrical Romantic on another one (Rhianna). It is not about the celebrity. It is about your body geometry and the most flattering context for that particular geometry (context being whatever you wear - clothes, accessories).
My advice is, if you are torn between a Gamine and Classic Body Types and if the Mickey Mouse ears trick does not work for you, get dressed into a stereotypically Gamine outfit and a stereotypically Classic outfit. The difference will be clear. Gamines do not look great in Classic clothes and vice versa. Gamines need a broken, staccato silhouette to look their best. Classics, on the other hand, are stunning in a rather unbroken vertical line. Classics look particularly unwell in Gamine outfits and vice versa. Compare a photo of yourself wearing a Classic Image Archetype suit or a dress and then a Gamine suit (e.g. a Chanel suit with a boxy jacket) or a dress. Put on a Classic outfit that is perfectly symmetrical and compare it to a Gamine outfit that is all about asymmetry. What is more you? In what context do you look like a goddess and in what context the clothes overpower you and undermine your natural charm?
I am sure that by now, all your doubts have been resolved.
